Our Industrial Product Design (IPO) and Occupational Therapy students (Ergotherapie) have won a national Dyson Award with their project DIY Swimming Prosthetic! A fantastic recognition for an innovative design combining social impact, user-centred design and technology. đź’™

Together with BOAS vzw and Johan Dumortier, a below-the-knee amputee, they developed an affordable swimming prosthetic specifically designed for use in the water. IPO and Occupational Therapy combined their expertise in product design, engineering and 3D printing with comfort, functionality and user needs.

After multiple prototypes and pool tests, the result is a lightweight, customisable and portable prosthetic that costs less than €100 to produce. More info: https://www.jamesdysonaward.org/nl-NL/2026/project/diy-swimming-prosthetic
