SPANT

Circular shelving system

baert_obe_eindwerk.jpg

SPANT was developed through research into the circular construction market, focusing on reusing roof battens and rafters from roof renovations as furniture. A simple connection system clamps roof battens together to form shelves, while rafters create the load-bearing structure. The assembly can be done on-site, giving discarded roof materials a second life. Unlike conventional furniture, SPANT is held together by tension rather than mass: a tightened rod clamps the wood into place. By making tension visible, SPANT gives reclaimed wood a new purpose and identity.
